Borne out of a real passion for the hand-crafted sign and good design, and established in 1983, Field Signs now has well over 40 years of continuous service to the signage industry — one of the most experienced companies operating in New Zealand, and the oldest one-owner sign company still going.
An early adopter of new technologies, our commitment to excellence in design, manufacture and installation throughout New Zealand has earned a reputation as the 'go-to' sign company with knowledge in every aspect of the industry.

Our specialty
Hand lettering, gold and metal-leaf gilding, air-brushing, chalk-boarding and every other facet of traditional sign work — an absolute specialty. Owner Chris Field founded the New Zealand LETTERHEADS movement. If you need something bespoke and handmade, you're in a very good craftsman's hands.

Point-of-sale signage and custom exhibition stands for temporary or permanent displays, designed in-house and manufactured in the materials our experience says are the best choice. Field Signs is also the home of Vista Systems — a premium display range.

Wide-format digital printing with environmentally friendly, hard-wearing HP latex inks and the very latest HP output. Spot-colour runs via Gerber Edge heat-print foil with 'Abrasion Guard', plus contour-cut decals as a specialty — and graphics for T-shirts and corporate wear.

04 — The craftsman
Owner / Master Signwriter
Chris Field is the owner of Field Signs, with over 40 years of owner-operator sign-making experience. Traditionally trained — starting with brushes and paint, learning hand lettering — he qualified two years early for his Advanced Trade Certificate and won the Norwood Award for Top Apprentice in all trades for New Zealand in 1978.
In 1997 Chris became the founder of the LETTERHEADS movement in New Zealand, established to preserve, nurture and develop traditional skills in sign making. He served as Chairman then President of the NZSDA and was an instigator of the New Zealand Sign & Display Awards, acting as Chief Judge from 2007 until 2015.
In 2015 Chris was honoured with Life Membership of the NZSDA. In 2017 the Australian LETTERHEADS community also honoured him with Life Membership for his work preserving traditional skills.
